Climate change activists hit the streets of London in their thousands

Climate change activists marched took to Westminster to call on the UN Climate summit to curb global carbon emissions.

Thousands of protesters, organised in part by Greenpeace and Oxfam, were joined by celebrities such as Emma Thompson, Peter Gabriel and Dame Vivienne Westwood.

London was not the only one involved in the protests as Melbourne witnesses 20,000 people calling on Australia’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott to do more to tackle carbon emission levels.

It is thought that 100,000 will march to the UN Headquarters in New York where the summit is to be held next week.

A total of 125 heads of government and state are expected to attend the conference.

This the first major climate summit since the unsuccessful meeting of leaders in Copenhagen in 2009.
