Heathrow drops behind European norm on free wifi
Heathrow has one of Europe’s worst levels of free wifi, according to survey from Skyscanner. The airport offers only 45 minutes of free wifi compared to unlimited periods for most of its European competitors. With 71 per cent of travellers saying that airport wifi is important for them, Heathrow’s allocation is substantially different from the European norm. Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Rome are amongst the airports offering unlimited free wifi – often at speeds ahead of Heathrow. Madrid and Gatwick are the only other major airports that offer similar short periods. “Wifi is becoming increasingly important. So many travellers have phones or tablets and the first thing they do is get online when they arrive at the airport” said one Heathrow staff member. The airport offers various pay-as-you-go options to increase wifi time.
